Schwab at the XVI. district

‘Schwab at the XVIth district’ and ‘Eine Menschenansammlung’ were conceived having as a reference the Real-Time Composition methodology, a concept I have been working on for the past few years. One of the simple ideas behind this method is that you don’t look for... you wait for. So the main task is to know how to be at the right place at the right time. And that place and time is always where you are. For this project I happened to be in the house where Werner Schwab lived between 1991-1993 and unexpectedly this became the motive of my work. I would like to give a special thank to two persons that involuntarily became involved in the project: Bernd Höfer, the owner of the flat where I stayed and a close friend of Werner Schwab, for sharing some of his memories with us and for all the information he provided me with, and the visual artist Hilde Fuchs, for sharing her work and knowledge on Werner Schwab with me. The Schwab phrase used in the Video ‘Eine Menschenansammlung’, the objects given to the public and the ‘sculpture’ I stand on during the presentation are elements of her own homage to Werner Schwab, done in 1997, called ‘Jetzt bin ich eine begehbare Dichterplastik’ (Now I am a dramatist-sculpture you can walk on). Gesprochen wird äußerst unzufällig. Man färbt die Worte persönlich, um sich womöglich gemeinsam auszukennen. Jedes Wort, jede gedankliche Verbindung ist eigentlich ein Versuchsballon. Andererseits betrachtet man das Gesprochene wie frisches Blut, das man in den Mund nehmen will, nachdem man sich verletzt hat.
