Ayona Datta ist Professorin für Stadtgeographie am University College London. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind postkolonialer Urbanismus, Smart Cities, urban futures und gender citizenship. Sie ist Mitherausgeberin von Dialogues in Human Geography sowie Urban Geography und im Redaktionsbeirat von Antipode, Gender, Place and Culture und Society and Space.
